Introducing Tītītorea - an exhilarating traditional Māori stick game that can generate a positive effect on your educational environment. Tītītorea triggers team work through activating hand-eye coordination, rhythm, beat and song. This 25-minute session will present insights into the evolution of Tītītorea, manufacturing of the sticks, game implementation with music, a variety of passing patterns and techniques catering to diverse ability levels.

The Japanese as a Second Language (JSL) SIG welcomes all current and prospective members to this annual general meeting (AGM). We will report on our activities, membership, publications, and the results of this year's officer elections. We will also share and discuss ideas for event plans.

The Michele Steele Best of JALT Awards is a program that was started to honor the speakers who make JALT events such valuable experiences. This year's awards are for events and publications from the 2020 calendar year.

Each year, the JALT chapters and SIGs each have the option of naming a speaker (or author of an article) from the previous calendar year as their Best of JALT award recipient. While this award had been around for many years, Michele Steele renewed the award and brought it properly into the limelight in 2010 by creating a ceremony to be held at JALT's annual international conference. Over the years, this Best of JALT Award Reception has grown into the main social event of the conference. At the JALT2020 Conference, the Executive Board of JALT unanimously voted on changing the name of this award to The Michele Steele Best of JALT Award in honor of Michele's inspiring work and devoted love of honoring the JALT members who are being recognized by this award. Sadly, Michele passed away in December 2020 after a long battle with illness, and will be greatly missed at this year's event.

Please join us for the Michele Steele Best of JALT Awards to not only honor the award recipients, but also to raise a glass in remembrance of Michele Steele, a long-time officer and volunteer of JALT.

The first half of the session will consist of the Annual General Meeting of the Business Communication SIG. The AGM will include officer reports and an election for officer roles. Given the uncertain current status of the SIG, it will be important for all members to participate and have their ideas and opinions voiced. The second half of the session will consist of a BC- and BE-themed forum.

The Graduate Student Subcommittee (GSS) is for people who currently study or are thinking about studying at university. We provide a forum for people to talk about their experience of student life, and we offer this event to help you make connections and share your ideas and concerns. We want to help all students, and we are looking for ideas about how we can do this. Anyone interested in joining or helping us is welcome.

PanSIG is an annual conference organized by JALT’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The conference brings together leading scholars and practitioners in language education. The JALT Mentoring & Orientation Committee will hold one-on-one sessions for JALT members registered for JALT International 2021. The 90-minute workshop focuses on enhancing the participants’ professional well-being through the approach of reflective dialogue. The participants will receive a pre-workshop introduction on how to conduct reflective dialogue by watching an introduction video and will be paired up with a partner in the workshop to practice reflective dialogue by having an actual session online.

The Bilingualism SIG consists of a diverse group of members with a wide range of academic interests and specializations. It includes families raising multilingual children within the Japanese context, alongside researchers interested in issues such as identity, language acquisition, and bilingual education. At our forum this year, we will review some of the literature and research that’s recently been included in our three publications. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) will immediately proceed. Please join us!

This will be an opportunity for current Macquarie research students to share their research as a work-in-progress with fellow participants and alumni. It is a good way for participants to discuss their progress and problems, and receive constructive feedback and advice in an informal relaxed setting. Participants please prepare a short summary of your research (one side A4). Any Macquarie students and alumni are welcome to join, listen, and advise.

This is an information session for the Vocabulary SIG and Annual General Meeting. The Vocabulary SIG provides a forum for focused research and discussion in regard to vocabulary acquisition. We offer both teachers and researchers a place to connect regarding how learners improve vocabulary knowledge, how to test their knowledge, and how these theoretical aspects connect to classroom practice.
