After a short explanation of Taiji chuan/太極拳, and an introduction of our local group, Martin will introduce a light workout. The workout will be live.

What does the board of directors (BoD) do? Who is on the 2021-2022 BoD? How does a member become a director? This informal interactive session will be attended by the current board of directors who will briefly introduce themselves and what they do. The floor will then be open for questions and discussion about the BoD, its members, and their work. Come ready to interact and converse!

Introducing Tītītorea - an exhilarating traditional Māori stick game that can generate a positive effect on your educational environment. Tītītorea triggers team work through activating hand-eye coordination, rhythm, beat and song. This 25-minute session will present insights into the evolution of Tītītorea, manufacturing of the sticks, game implementation with music, a variety of passing patterns and techniques catering to diverse ability levels.

The Japanese as a Second Language (JSL) SIG welcomes all current and prospective members to this annual general meeting (AGM). We will report on our activities, membership, publications, and the results of this year's officer elections. We will also share and discuss ideas for event plans.

If you are involved with publicity for your JALT chapter or SIG, please consider attending this meeting. We’ll start with a question and discussion session. First-time authors and those wishing to publish in Japanese are especially welcome.

At the LD SIG AGM, we will look through the 2021 Learner Development SIG Committee Review and treasurer’s report for 2020-2021 and discuss the budget for 2022. Also, we will share ideas and plan our SIG activities for 2022. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

The Michele Steele Best of JALT Awards is a program that was started to honor the speakers who make JALT events such valuable experiences. This year's awards are for events and publications from the 2020 calendar year.

Each year, the JALT chapters and SIGs each have the option of naming a speaker (or author of an article) from the previous calendar year as their Best of JALT award recipient. While this award had been around for many years, Michele Steele renewed the award and brought it properly into the limelight in 2010 by creating a ceremony to be held at JALT's annual international conference. Over the years, this Best of JALT Award Reception has grown into the main social event of the conference. At the JALT2020 Conference, the Executive Board of JALT unanimously voted on changing the name of this award to The Michele Steele Best of JALT Award in honor of Michele's inspiring work and devoted love of honoring the JALT members who are being recognized by this award. Sadly, Michele passed away in December 2020 after a long battle with illness, and will be greatly missed at this year's event.

Please join us for the Michele Steele Best of JALT Awards to not only honor the award recipients, but also to raise a glass in remembrance of Michele Steele, a long-time officer and volunteer of JALT.

PanSIG is an annual conference organized by JALT’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The conference brings together leading scholars and practitioners in language education. This meeting will have multiple breakout room sessions to discuss different PanSIG conference-related topics. It is open for anyone interested in joining future PanSIG conferences. The JALT Mentoring & Orientation Committee will hold one-on-one sessions for JALT members registered for JALT International 2021. The 90-minute workshop focuses on enhancing the participants’ professional well-being through the approach of reflective dialogue. The participants will receive a pre-workshop introduction on how to conduct reflective dialogue by watching an introduction video and will be paired up with a partner in the workshop to practice reflective dialogue by having an actual session online.

The presenters will detail the training and services currently available to JALT members through the Writers’ Peer Support Group (PSG), which pairs writers aiming for publication with volunteer peer readers. Current PSG members, those interested in becoming PSG members or more effective peer readers or reviewers, novices writing for publication, and researchers interested in peer-to-peer models would benefit from this session. Our annual general meeting follows immediately and is open to anyone who is interested.

This will be an opportunity for current Macquarie research students to share their research as a work-in-progress with fellow participants and alumni. It is a good way for participants to discuss their progress and problems, and receive constructive feedback and advice in an informal relaxed setting. Participants please prepare a short summary of your research (one side A4). Any Macquarie students and alumni are welcome to join, listen, and advise.

This is the annual general meeting for the pragmatics SIG. There will be reports, discussion of future programs, and election of committee members. Everyone is welcome, both members and nonmembers.

The JALT Financial Steering Committee will hold a meeting to discuss the current and future financial status of JALT. Any JALT member is welcome to attend and observe, but only FSC members can participate.
