Literature and Global Citizenship in the Language Classroom

This presentation discusses the role and practical use of literature in the language classroom within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for curriculum developers. First, relevant literary texts will be introduced in relation to specific goals and analysed with reference to learner level suitability. Next, authentic classroom activities and assessments that may increase effective learner engagement, as well as their awareness of global issues, will be explored.

  • Luke Draper

    Luke Draper is an Associate Lecturer of English at the Kwansei Gakuin School of Policy Studies. He is also a PhD student, studying pedagogical stylistics, interaction and the creative writing workshop. He is an advocate for using literature and creative writing in the language classroom as an effective tool toward communication and advanced cognitive skills. He is currently the Publicity Officer for the LiLT SIG and encourages anyone interested to get involved.
