About
Eleanor Kane is a professor in the Faculty of International Relations, University of Shimane, Japan. She has been involved with VE since 2010, and is especially interested in the role that VE can play in a Content and Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach to language learning, through collaboration between educators in diverse fields. She holds an M.A. (Hons.) in English Language and Literature from the University of Glasgow, an M.Phil, in Publishing from Stirling University, and a M.Sc. in TESOL from Aston University, UK. She currently teaches several core curriculum model VE courses and facilitates extra-curricular student VE.Sessions
Technology Virtual Exchange to Increase Students’ Intercultural Competence more
Virtual exchange (VE) often suffers from an over-reliance on individual teachers and specific courses. This presentation outlines a project, showing how the authors increased VE opportunities, starting with creating a model of the attitudes, knowledge, skills, and values the researchers hoped VE would instill. Students worked towards these outcomes through several modes of VE which were evaluated using BEVI-j and interviews. This presentation will share the results, now being used to improve access to VE.
